Hi, I’m Martin Shepherd, I have been an ADI now for 5 and a half years. I got involved with “madia” after chatting to Kev the chairman down at the test centre in Sutton, we were chatting about how we all seemed to have a gripe and moan but no-one seemed to want to do anything about it, so when he asked would I be interested in attending a meeting I said yes definitely. After starting my working life in retail I discovered it wasn’t for me very quickly, so I went to work in a wholesale cash & carry and ended up on the road in a 7.5tonne truck delivering in and around the east midlands. It was hard graft but at least it was honest. In total I did that job for 9 years, then one day a truck driver mate said he was looking into becoming a driving instructor, so we both looked into it and before you know it we were on the training course, and I have never looked back. I can’t explain how it makes me feel when my pupil passes, it’s almost like it’s me that’s past the test. I am currently taking the IAM training course (oct 06) to improve my own driving skills ( it’s different when you’re the one being watched). At home I’m married to a lovely Nottingham lady (she saw sense and moved to Mansfield) we have been together for 11 years and married for 8 and we have a cat called Gismo. I am sure `MADIA` will help instructors work closer together, and with the assistance of our two wheel colleagues, make Mansfield & Ashfield a safer place to drive and ride in. I look forward to the future meetings and getting to know our colleagues, cheers Martin.
