Hi, my name is Mel Pearson; I trained during the late 90’s to become an ADI. I recently responded to Kev’s advert on the Test Centre notice board and was seconded onto the committee drawing the short straw for the treasurer’s job. At the age of 16 I joined the Air Force as an apprentice Airframe Technician. I stayed for 25 years. Saw a bit of the world, especially Northern Ireland, also worked in an RAF recruiting office for 4 years in central London interviewing applicants for RAF service. After escaping the RAF and 14 years of marriage I found myself drifting from job to job, mainly trucking but did work for a short while as a Traffic Warden but quickly found an escape route after the assaults became physical rather than verbal. After doing the IAM test and helping others as an observer I realised I was enjoying helping others with driving and trained as an ADI in 1998. I did have 3 years off the road as a temporary centre manager for BSM. Often working late into the evening as an ADI, the local fish and chip take away was a place I would visit to obtain the necessary sustenance. Often chatting to the wonderful lady who was doing the frying. 8 years ago the very lady, by the name of Janet became my partner and we have lived happily ever since along with a Springer Spaniel called Max, adopted from a rescue centre. I have no children and Janet’s family are adults. Life is peaceful for us (sometimes).
Since MADIA was created I have had to take on other work to cover shortfalls in business levels so if you see a wave from a Tesco delivery van do not get alarmed it is only me.
I feel MADIA has been a success and hope it remains for many years to come; I enjoy the role of treasurer and hope I can remain in position for the foreseeable future.
