Hi my name is John Thompson I have been a driving instructor for over 23 years (note the grey hairs!). I am a family man, happily married to my wife, Helen, with two great teenage children, Hannah and Greg; life is never dull! We have a dog (a soft coated wheaten terrier) called Kizzi who is very much a part of the family, and until recently I used to travel the country showing her at championship shows.
I recently discovered the average time a driving instructor stays in the profession is about 5years so I suppose I must be doing something right, and you realise how old you are getting when you start to teach the children of the mums and dads you taught years ago. Having been a member of the old Mansfield driving instructors association for around 20 years, and chairman on two occasions, I was more than happy to hear of the new association being formed. It gives a support network in our profession that we were lacking locally in our area. I have a lot of respect for Kev Hooton who has put a lot of time and effort into forming this association and tries hard to make the meetings informative and productive.
I have seen a lot of changes to our profession over the years and having this association helps to keep us all informed and up to date on what is happening.
I look forward to meeting friends old and new at our future meetings.
