Hi, my name is Lesley Spence, Madia Social Organiser. I was co-opted onto the committee by my great pal, and training buddy, Phil Lawson.
I have been a driving instructor since Jan ‘04. As a lady I am in the minority in this profession, so it was really nice to meet other ladies at the meetings.
Prior to this job I was a domestic administration assistant (Housewife) for many years. Starting work again was a scary prospect but I now know I made the choice of the best profession. I really love this job and enjoy being my own boss. It can be a bit lonely though. However, when we're on the road we are like bus and taxi drivers we all wave to one another. Well most of us do! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! So it's really nice to be able to say "hello" to those you've only waved too.
I am currently taking a sabbatical but like to keep informed as to what’s going on in the industry and Madia enables me to do so.
I am married to Grahame and we have two wonderful children Katie (20) and Matthew (18). You are right, looking at my photo, I was a child bride! Ha Ha! I taught them both to drive; a huge achievement.
"Madia" is a great way to meet like-minded people with the same interests; to help make the roads safer by teaching good driving skills for life. I also look forward to meeting more ADIs and PDIs at our future meetings.
